Hello to all,
My sister had a strange habit of talking about nothing, something, and everything all at once. Generally it started with a subject, then diverged into several contingency paths. By the time my parents got tired of it, it was a full out rambling rant that would make us all laugh. Long ago, my dad decided this practice of strange storytelling, was "Heathering." So, in my wonderful sister's honor, this site is dedicated to her. Tell a story, write a note, Heather (verb tense) on till your heart warms. It is my hope that discussing the stories of her, which made her so special to us all, our hearts will begin to heal. We miss you Heffer.

Letting Go Again.

Anonymous Dad said...

TUESDAY, JUNE 2, 2009
Matt and Heather would have celebrated their 8th wedding anniversary today. Betty and I were so happy that day. Heather and her bridesmaids were all at the house and it was like a party of young girls. Everyone was giggling and having fun.
But this day had been forecast years before. During Heather's first year Betty and I took her to meet my Uncle Edward Beard in Bismarck, Missouri. Uncle Ed was in his 90s and as we sat on the couch, he asked a strange question; "Nelson, what would you take for her?" I was caught off guard, but told him, "Not a million dollars." He smiled and said, "Of course, but someday you will have to give her away." That stayed with me.
We nervously waited out in the church narthex before the bridal march began. When the double doors opened we stepped arm-in-arm out into the church, and I began telling her that story, ending it with, "...and here I am giving you away." I was grinning and she was smiling too. At that moment, the photographer snapped a picture. It is one of my favorites. Both of us laughing at an old story at the time of a new beginning.
