Hello to all,
My sister had a strange habit of talking about nothing, something, and everything all at once. Generally it started with a subject, then diverged into several contingency paths. By the time my parents got tired of it, it was a full out rambling rant that would make us all laugh. Long ago, my dad decided this practice of strange storytelling, was "Heathering." So, in my wonderful sister's honor, this site is dedicated to her. Tell a story, write a note, Heather (verb tense) on till your heart warms. It is my hope that discussing the stories of her, which made her so special to us all, our hearts will begin to heal. We miss you Heffer.

If you believe me...

Blogger Kelly said...

Sometimes I can hardly believe Matt and Heather were married 8 years ago! But it was 9 Aprils ago they were engaged....the end of April actually as it coincided with the EIT testing on campus that happens each and every April.

Matt had driven up from Tulsa that Friday night before the test. The following Saturday, Jessie and I had gone out for breakfast/lunch (we were slackers who were not taking the EIT that day). We got back to the house on Cedar Street and found Matt in the living room watching tv, and we plopped down on the couch. He looked over and said, "Heather and I are engaged now."

Jessie and I were a little surprised by this - Heather obviously knew that Matt "was the one," but never hinted that she knew a ring was on its way. So, instead of celebrating, Jess and I both reacted with something along the lines of, "Yeah, right. No way."

Matt was a little taken aback and asked why wouldn't believe him. We explained that a) it just seemed a little odd to arrive late after working a full day in Tulsa and hit the house and propose, and b) that he would pick the night before one of the biggest tests Heather would ever take when we ALL knew that ANY test gave her the runs (Skylor has confirmed this as a lifelong trait for her). He just smiled at us and sait, "Well, you guys just wait."

So, some time later Heather comes bounding in the house after the all-day test was over and immediately shouts, "We're engaged!" and had a huge, giggly grin on her face. Matt shot us the "told you so" look and, after celebrating this time around, we apologized to Matt then had to explain ourselves to Heather.

Every time after that we would talk about their upcoming wedding, she'd toss in a comment like, "...if you believe me..." She also prodded Jess and me into a "public apology" at the reception because she loved that story so much. Yet another long-running, inside joke we shared.
