Hello to all,
My sister had a strange habit of talking about nothing, something, and everything all at once. Generally it started with a subject, then diverged into several contingency paths. By the time my parents got tired of it, it was a full out rambling rant that would make us all laugh. Long ago, my dad decided this practice of strange storytelling, was "Heathering." So, in my wonderful sister's honor, this site is dedicated to her. Tell a story, write a note, Heather (verb tense) on till your heart warms. It is my hope that discussing the stories of her, which made her so special to us all, our hearts will begin to heal. We miss you Heffer.

Commenting on Betty's doll story...

Matt said...

Jack must have gotten that from Heather, but cars, not dolls. Last night he popped up looked around his room and proceeded to ask for every car, tractor, and truck he could see. Once he had all underneath him, he went right back to bed.

I remember the first time I saw Heather, it must have been November or so her freshman year at UMR. She was simply walking into the quad as I was walking to class. I remember she was wearing a navy pea coat. We exchanged glances and a little smile. I don't know if it was love at first site, but I defintely know we shared a connection. She had a quiet confidence about her.

It is hard to believe that was over 12 years ago. We didn't officially meet until the end of that school year, and she took the initiative to write to me over the summer. I remember how surprised and excited I was to get that first letter. Our first few years together were filled with that giddy, fresh feeling when you are newly in love. That feeling faded, but I don't think our love did.

I remember our first Valentines day together in Rolla, I had planned to take her to one of the nicer restaurants Rolla has to offer (Gordoz) but did not make a reservation. Now of course I realize you need to make reservations for ocassions like Valentines Day, but at that time that did not occur to me. When we didn't get in we went all over town to find another restaurant. Eventually we settled on Burger King. It actually turned out to be a great evening, and for the next 5 years or so we made BK our V-day tradition. I'm not sure many other girls would put up with a guy that takes them to BK every Valentines, but to us it was somehow uniquely romantic.

I could write for days about memories of Heather, almost all good with an ocassional rough one thrown in.

Our best memory though is the birth of our son Jack. Heather loves him so much. She was such a good mother to him. I think her favorite thing to do was to introduce him to new places and things and watch him learn. He really soaks it all in. She gave him the best first two years a kid could wish for.
